The 12th annual Central Park Race went off as scheduled on Saturday. The Rip got rained out the Friday before, the slide comp at Fort Tryon got broken up before it began on Sunday, but the race was perfect. Probably +/- 200 riders. Earthwing’s Kaspar Spurgeon-Heinrici set a new record: 22 minutes for the six mile loop. Nuts. Corey, last year’s winner by a nose, came in second. The rest of the top-ten is still a mystery. Theseus, who came out of nowhere to win the Broadway Bomb in 2008, had to race carrying a friend’s Big Stick. Anton Milioti raced in his underwear but unfortunately left his sister at home. King Solomon was back, after a very bad crash, and looking good. He’s off with the Overbored riders to skate cross-country next month.
In other important news, I may or may not have finished top three in the “presidential” (aka codgers’) division. Waiting for the Bustin finish-line video to clear things up—not because it was close: because it was chaos. Whatever it shows I’m keeping the trophy.
